NICKEL-CADMIUM BATTERIES

Nickel-cadmium batteries are rechargeable batteries that contain both Nickel (Ni) and Cadmium (Cd) in various forms compositions. Typically, the positive electrode is composed of Nickel hydroxide (Ni(OH)2) and the negative electrode is made of Cadmium hydroxide (Cd(OH)2). Potassium hydroxide is usually used for the electrolyte.

Due to their low internal resistance and the very good current conducting properties, Ni-Cd cells can supply extremely high currents and can be recharged rapidly. Therefore, Ni-Cd cells can operate in a large temperature range, from +60°C to -20°C. Sealed Ni–Cd cells may be used individually, or assembled into battery packs containing two or more cells.
